I sat on the ground, watching the street before me. My feet were not touching ordinary earth, but soil mixed with stones, dust, and the remains of a life that had once existed here. I raised my eyes toward the building across the street and saw what remained of its walls, still standing with difficulty, like an old man exhausted by years of sorrow, yet refusing to fall for the last time. This place was once full of life: children's voices, family laughter, the footsteps of people returning to their homes, and the smell of fresh bread in the morning. Today, tents have replaced rooms, blankets have become doors, and rubble stands as a witness to stories that were never allowed to reach their endings. A young man walked down the street, taking ordinary steps, but I wondered: How much pain was he carrying in his heart? How many times had he tried to appear strong before others while, deep inside, he was searching for nothing more than a moment of safety? In Gaza, people no longer dream of very much. Sometimes, all they wish for is a night of sleep without fear, a window through which they can see a new morning, and a home where they can gather with their loved ones instead of searching for them among the rubble.
