Absurd Ecologies | Alex Gonzalez Community Gallery 131 Washington St. OPENING TODAY 5-7pm I am an artist and designer with a formal education in landscape architecture, drawn to the artistic and philosophical dimensions of landscape. I believe everything is a landscape, including our mind and body, and I encourage my work to be viewed through that lens. At the core, what I am interested in is space itself and existing in space. Space being the substance that binds us to every living and non-living thing. My body of work is an investigation into space, what it is made up of, the things that occupy it, and the way those things interact with their environment. My art is informed largely by my education in ecological and anthropological systems across scales. I am driven by a deep desire to understand how reality operates, and through my work, I explore where logic falls apart. I dissect the world without breaking it, reconstituting it into something familiar yet novel, with the aim of having the viewer question their own perception and relationship to the natural and built environment. I consider my paintings self-contained ecosystems, and color plays an important role in my work, not just as surface treatment, but as a subject in itself. The way different forms come to life and interact in the field of the painting is dictated by the color, its meaning, vibrancy, and relationship to the other primaries in my palette. My paintings come to be through an intuitive process driven by my philosophical curiosities, ecological insights, artistic capabilities, and playful attitude towards life
