Walking into the August Wilson center on Saturday, the rhythm hit before I even cleared the doors. Hearing familiar laughter, live percussion echoing off the walls, and Boricua Spanish bouncing across the lobby did something immediate to my nervous system. When you live far from what’s innately familiar and spend weeks running in overdrive, you forget how heavy the isolation actually feels until a room like this completely lifts it. I spent months convincing myself that catching my breath required getting on a plane back to the island. What Saturday reminded me is that community is not just a place on a map; it is what happens when people gather to hold space for each other right where they stand. Shoutout to the organizers for pulling together ¡Vamos pa’ Puerto Rico! It was not just an event; it was soul maintenance. ——— #HispanicHeritageMonth #Boricua #LatinosInPittsburgh #Pittsburgh #CulturaBoricua
