Imagine Apple launching a new product and your first thought is: There goes my SEO. Apple launches Duo. Duolingo immediately posts: “oh god oh god my SEO my SEO” Brilliant. Because you can own a brand. You can build enormous recognition around a name. But you cannot control what happens when another brand suddenly gives that same word an entirely new meaning. And when that brand happens to be Apple, you could complain about it. Or you could make yourself part of the conversation. Duolingo chose the latter. What I like most is that they did not suddenly invent a clever social media personality for the occasion. This IS their personality. Fast. Self-aware. Slightly unhinged. Instantly recognisable. That is the real marketing lesson for me. The best time to develop a distinctive brand voice is not when a cultural moment happens. It is years before it. So when your moment comes, everyone already knows exactly who is speaking. Also, thoughts and prayers for Duos SEO. #DigitalMarketing #BrandStrategy #SocialMediaMarketing #ContentMarketing #marketing
