FOR MORE ARTICLES | @pap_magazine Everyone has, at least once, confidently pronounced the name of a high-end brand only to be met with an awkward silence. According to a study by Duolingo, 62% of Americans said they could correctly read the name ‘Hermès,’ but only 15% actually pronounced it correctly. To tackle this all-too-familiar dilemma, Duolingo teamed up with designer Meghan O’Cain to launch the capsule collection ‘The Phonetic Collection.’ From Hermès and Moschino to Jacquemus, the collection features typographic graphics of the phonetic spellings of notoriously tricky brand names. Duolingo also opened a pop-up space on New York’s Canal Street, where visitors could bid on the collection using their in-app ‘streaks’ as currency instead of traditional price tags. Turning the embarrassment of mispronunciation into a witty marketing moment, Duolingo has once again proven its knack for clever ideas. So, now that you’ve seen the collection, are you ready to walk into the store and confidently pronounce those brand names? 📸 @duolingo @a_damp_owl
