Today, I had my Dries Van Noten glasses 👓 adjusted at Iwasaki Optical—a narrow “pencil building” shop tucked between the Uniqlo and Tiffany flagship stores in Ginza. Established in 1896, Iwasaki Optical is Ginza’s oldest eyewear shop, boasting a history spanning 130 years. I usually purchase my frames via Farfetch and have the lenses fitted at the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi flagship store, but I rely on Iwasaki Optical for repairs and adjustments. I was impressed by the large, easy-to-use, and soft-textured cloth Mr. Iwasaki used to clean glasses—clearly a professional-grade tool—so I asked if I could have one. It is a Toray-made cloth, an excellent product capable of quickly polishing anything from smartphones and watches to precious metals. Afterward, Having not eaten since morning, I wanted a pasta dish that would be filling. I remembered that the Chianti Iikura-Katamachi flagship store had a café branch in Ginza Matsuya, so I stopped there for pasta 🍝 and a Coca-Cola 🥤 before heading home. CHIANTI has been in business for 66 years. Its founder, Hiroshi Kawazoe, created a salon that served as a gathering place for Japan’s cultural elite—figures from the worlds of literature, art, politics, and entertainment—in the post-war era. P.S.: I was a bit disappointed with the CHIANTI branch at Ginza Matsuya, as the service and food quality didn’t quite measure up to the flagship store. However, since it was raining outside and I didn’t have the energy to look for another place, I ended up going home feeling somewhat unsatisfied. 🧐 #Ginza 🌧️☔️🌧️ #Nihonbashi 🏛️ #Kabutocho 🏦 #IikuraKatamachi 🍽️ #Chianti 🍷
