The World Health Organization (WHO) says it had asked Russia for more information about the cause of death of an employee at a plague research institute in Siberia, stressing that transparency was essential to have a clear understanding of any potential health risks. Russian authorities say the 28-year-old laboratory employee died from pneumonia of as yet undetermined origin, in a case that has raised concern internationally and initially led to the quarantine of around 200 people. The Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is also seeking to clarify conflicting media reports of a second case of pneumonia of "undetermined cause".
