Israelis are marking three years since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage. The day began with a nationwide minute's silence at 06:29 local time, to mark the time the attacks started. Several other events are also taking place across the country, including a memorial at Kfar Aza, a kibbutz near Gaza that was attacked, and a ceremony at Re'im - the site of the Nova music festival. Anti-government protests have also taken place, with one of the main highways in Tel Aviv blocked to hold a moment of silence, with banners that read "the people will remember their sons and daughters" along with others that say "guilty" next to an image of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Groups including the October Council and the Kumu Movement, have been demanding a public inquiry into the 7 October attacks. In response to the attacks, Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza in which more than 74,200 people have been killed, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
