The strengthening El Niño means the Atlantic hurricane season has reached its peak with no hurricanes. It means we will see the longest stretch on record into a season without the formation of a single hurricane. Only five named storms have developed - Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly and Edouard - compared with an average of around eight named storms and three hurricanes by this point. The El Niño weather pattern suppresses tropical development, leaving the Atlantic unusually calm. The previous record for the latest first Atlantic hurricane in the satellite era was 11 September, set in 2002 and 2013. #ElNino #Hurricane #Weather #News #BBCWeather
